Incubus 2009: Greatest Hits

Os Incubus na sua newsletter oficial, escrita por Brandon Boyd, deram aos fãs a notícia, que já muito se especulava... ao fim de 17 de existencia, os Incubus vão lançar o seu primeiro "Greatest Hits"! Brandon Boyd diz que "Neste momento estamos a reunir ideias, a limpar o pó às engrenagens e a reunir-nos em Los Angeles este mês para criarmos e compilarmos aquela que será a nossa nova oferenda ao mundo dos downloads ilegais".

Mas com isto, não quer dizer que o fim dos Incubus se aproxima, como é o resultado de muitas bandas após lançarem o seu "Greatest Hits". É que segundo Boyd, a banda pode dar o início a uma nova era, e o melhor ainda está por vir.

O "Greatest Hits" tem previsões de sair, na Primavera de 2009 e vai incluir alguns temas inéditos neste álbum que vão ser gravados em Los Angeles, provavelmente com Brandon O'Brien, produtor de ACLOTM e do Light Grenades.

Por fim, aqui fica uma mensagem filosófica de Brandon Boyd a todos os fãs para 2009:

"It looks as if the Greatest Hits will have a few new tracks on it and that it will be ready to steal around Spring of 2009! So in the interim, have a wonderful Holiday season! Remember that it's the thought that counts and not how much you spend. Hugs are better than drugs and they're cheaper! Making love is far healthier than waging war, and it's certainly more fun. Anyone who claims to have all the answers is most deserving of skeptical inquiry. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, but teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Unless that fish is contaminated with Mercury. Then you just screwed that guy. Change your underwear at least twice a week, chew your food thoroughly, wipe front to back, measure twice and cut once, leaves of three, let 'em be! Leave of four... you get the idea. Lastly, a warm and sincere thank you to all of you who have been onboard with us for so long. Sharing our music with you has been a privileged occasion! And I thank all of you on behalf of this band. Here's to another year of art, music, travel and discovery. All our love. Take care of yourselves and each other out there.

ME: I’m a special student through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, so I’m studying for a year. That’s what’s great about that specific program, that it offers the flexibility.

Make Yourself Foundation

Balanço do último ano da Make Yourself Foundation:

Over the past few years, we have been so fortunate to watch the Make Yourself Foundation grow from its humble beginnings to a full fledged source of assistance and influence in the world. Through all of our combined efforts, MYF was able to reach it's first long term goal of One Million dollars late last year. Dozens of important causes were held up with your hands, Incubus' largest tour to date was able to almost completely erase its carbon footprint, and not the least of the accomplishments, together we were reminded that 'many' is more powerful than 'few. '

It has been really wonderful meeting the people all over the world whose love of art and music inspire them towards acts of selflessness. And we look forward to continuing this process further; setting new, larger goals along the way. The accolades granted to Incubus this last year, (EMA Award, Ebay Giving Works Award) are dedicated to those of you who spent your hard earn coin donating to MYF. Without your participation, we wouldn't be where we are today! So, what I guess I'm trying to say is, thank you! And the charities to whom those moneys went to thank you as well.

So on behalf of everyone in Incubus and once again, the organizations to which we all donated our time and resources, cheers! It has always been my observation that to live by example is the most admirable way to walk the Earth! See you all soon...

Brandon: Exposição de Arte

Depois de Mike ter finalizado o seu projecto paralelo (sinfonia) agora é a vez do Brandon mostrar a todos o que tem andado a fazer nestes tempos em que a banda está numa espécie de pausa para descanso.

Entre os dias 8 e 27 de Setembro estará em exposição numa galeria de Los Angeles a obra “Ectoplasm” realizada pelo Brandon

Foi ontem a apresentação do End.>Vacuum composto por Mike Einziger. A obra foi conduzida por Suzie Katayama e tocada pela Gravition Modern Ensemble no Royce Hall em Los Angeles. O espéctaculo teve ainda uma apresentação por parte de Steve Rennie (manager dos Incubus) e do Dr. Brian Cox sobre a LHC, a partícula acelaradora e a mais poderosa máquina construída pelos homens. Tributo aos The Who nos Rock Honours

"O banda The Who foi homenageada pelos Foo Fighters e pelos Pearl Jam no último sábado, durante a terceira cerimónia dos Rock Honours do canal televisivo VH1. O evento anual presta tributo a quem influencia a música rock. Os The Flaming Lips, os Incubus e os Tenacious D também homenagearam-os durante o evento que decorreu em Los Angeles.

O actor Jack Black mostrou a sua admiração pela banda The Who antes da actuação da banda. «É uma honra homenagear a melhor banda de todos os tempos na minha opinião. Querem saber por que é que eles são os melhores? Porque foram os primeiros a fazer o verdadeiro rock», afirmou o actor de «Kung Fu Panda». David Duchovny, Mila Kunis e Adam Sandler também participaram na cerimónia como apresentadores.

Os The Who actuaram no final da cerimónia, interpretando os maiores êxitos da banda. «Eu tenho tido uma vida cheia de privilégios. Tenho saudades dos meus velhos amigos, mas eles estão sempre comigo», afirmou Roger Daltrey, o líder da banda."

INCUBUS GUITARIST MICHAEL EINZIGER PENS ORCHESTRAL COMPOSITION TO BE PERFORMED AT ROYCE HALL ON AUGUST,23

Michael Einziger, guitarist from the Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum rock band Incubus enters a new realm with the debut of his first original orchestral composition, “End.>vacuum,” at UCLA’s famed Royce Hall on August 23.

The piece consists of nine musical movements (approximately 40 minutes total) and will be performed by a chamber orchestra led by renowned Los Angeles conductor and Einziger’s longtime collaborator Suzie Katayama.

The evening will begin with British physicist Dr. Brian Cox, who will be giving a 20-minute lecture about particle physics and the exciting scientific experiments being conducted at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research). Dr.
Cox was the Scientific Consultant on the Danny Boyle film Sunshine.
His commentary on the film is now available on the DVD. He also writes on scientific issues, most recent credits include the New Statesman and The Times. His ability to present science in an exciting and interesting way has made him a popular television & radio presenter, broadcaster and writer.

Einziger has been crafting “End.>vacuum” for more than a year, following surgery in March 2007 for carpel tunnel syndrome, a repetitive-strain injury to his left wrist undoubtedly due to a lifetime of playing guitar. The condition forced him to take a hiatus from the band and his instrument. It would be the longest he’d ever gone without playing, and enabled him to follow some other musical, as well as outside, interests.

“Live musical performance is what I’m most familiar with,” says Einziger, who will play various different instruments throughout the piece. “So I think it was natural for me to gravitate in that direction.”

The piece was inspired by such iconoclastic modern and avant-garde composers as Igor Stravinsky, George Crumb, Samuel Barber, Krzysztof Penderecki and Frank Zappa.

According to Einziger, “End.>vacuum” makes reference to his perception of the outer edge of human understanding, “the finite place where rational scientific knowledge stops and pure speculation ensues…The event horizon between what we know and what we don’t know is what keeps me awake at night, but also gets me out of bed every day.”

A major portion of the piece’s inspiration resides in Einziger’s love of science. He has recently participated in articles with Brown University evolutionary biologist Dr. Kenneth Miller, British physicist Dr. Brian Cox and Pulitzer Prize-winning science historian Dr. Ed Larson.

Einziger has been accepted at Harvard, where he will begin to study musical composition this fall. He hopes to study subjects such as Physics, Cosmology and Evolutionary Biology. You know, the easy stuff.

"And, our drummer is having a baby, so there's a lot of normal life stuff going on right now -- school, babies, mortgages," Boyd says."

"I'm of the mind to say it wouldn't be a bad thing to disappear for a year or two years," he says.

"On June 13th I had the honor of visiting the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Bryan Cox, Renilde Vanden Broeck, and a few other super-cool physicists there were kind enough to give me a special tour of two of the particle detectors (ATLAS, and CMS) I can honestly say that this was one of the most incredible things i have ever seen in my entire life.

The pictures can do absolutely no justice in showing how truly massive this machine is. The LHC is going to lead to hugely monumental discoveries in physics in the next few years, and will dramatically change our common view of reality. I can't wait." Mike Einziger

"I am about to embark on the last leg of our 'Light Grenades' Tour. It's bringing us through Europe once again for a handful of festivals and placing us squarely back in Los Angeles by the middle of June. At which point I will begin preparing for my first solo art installation. I have already changed the location a few times in attempt to find the perfect place for the work I have been toiling over for quite some time now. And I have finally found the perfect Venue. I can't say exactly where it will take place as of yet, but I am certain that it will be in sunny Los Angeleeeeez. It will be up for about one month and will be open to the public for that duration. When I get the ok to announce the exact place, I will let you know right away so stay tuned... I am testing the water in my home town and after the show, if no one gets hurt and all come out the other side smiling, I hope to take the installation by the hand and deliver it to other locales around the globe. Any suggestions?"

"Hello Everyone. It's been awhile since I have updated anyone, on anything....So here's a little info for everyone on what i've been up to:

I have been working on an orchestral concert-piece for what seems like an eternity, and it is very close to being completed...this piece will likely be performed by a full symphony-orchestra at a Los Angeles concert venue sometime in August....the details are being ironed-out as we speak. I will keep everyone posted.

Mike Einziger e Tom Morello

Tom Morello, guitarrista e co-fundador dos Rage Against The Machine vai "lançar-se" numa mini-tour em Abril, e que focar-se-á principalmente na justiça social através da música e activismo local.

Morello vai ter consigo em cada data, vários convidados diferentes, entre eles, Ben Harper, Slash, Perry Farrell, Sen Dog dos Cypress Hill, Davey Havok dos AFI, Boots Riley dos The Coup, Maynard James Keenan dos Tool e Puscifer, Shooter Jennings, State Radio, Wayne Kramer que é fundador dos MC5 e claro está, o 'nosso' Mike Einziger dos Incubus.

"There has been much talk about change this election season, but real change must start with people, not politicians." Diz Tom Morello ainda: "No matter who is elected, we the people must create justice on the ground."

Tom Morello esteve recentemente em Portugal, na 1ª parte do concerto dos Dave Matthews Band, para apresentar o seu trabalho a solo 'One Man Revolution', lançado no ano passado.

B-Day INCUBUS PORTUGAL

Hoje, é o nosso quarto aniversário, e não podíamos deixar passar este importante dia para nós, sem agradecer a toda a comunidade Incubus Portugal, tanto do blog, como também do Myspace Incubus Portugal, do Grupo Hi5 e, principalmente do Fórum Incubus Portugal que tem estado sempre, muito movimentado.

A nossa base de leitores tem aumentado, o blog já está inscrito no 1º Super Blog Awards na categoria de Música, os nossos filiados têm aumentado, assim como blogues e sites nacionais de várias bandas, o blog já é um ponto de referência para vários sites de Incubus espalhados pelo mundo, e mais que uma vez já foi reconhecido o nosso mérito, tanto pela banda como pelo manager Steve Rennie. Tudo isto tem sido merecedor de todo o nosso orgulho no dia-a-dia, a cada post que postamos e a cada incentivo que recebemos.

Mais um festival na Europa para a juntar à Incubus Tour Festivals 2008...

PinkPop 2008, festival esse, em que, vão abrir mais uma vez os Metallica, como foi no Rock In Rio 2004.

O festival está marcado para os dias 30, 31 de Maio e 1 de Junho. E os Incubus marcam presença, logo no primeiro dia do festival, na companhia de Metallica, Flogging Molly, Porcupine Tree, Alter Bridge, SAT2D e mais uma banda, ainda por confirmar.

Destaques deste festival vão para a presença de (pr'além de Metallica e Incubus) Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age, Rage Against the Machine, The Hives, Editors, entre muitos outros.

Brandon Boyd acaba de confirmar a presença da banda, em mais um grande festival de verão na Europa, desta vez é o Download Festival em Inglaterra.

"I am really excited about the Download festival!" grins frontman Brandon Boyd "Summer festivals are always a highlight for us; seeing other bands, watching lots of people get along, open and creative atmospheres, nudity, sun burns, drugs, grass stains, overly priced merchandise, drugs, nudity, public urinals and mud. What's not to enjoy? But honestly, we really like it."

Este festival decorre entre os dias 13 e 15 de Junho, estando ainda por confirmar o dia em que os Incubus vão actuar. Outras das bandas para este festival são: Alter Bridge, Disturbed, HIM, In Flames, Judas Priest, Kiss, Lostprophets, Motorhead, Rise Against e The Offspring.

Incubus na Europa

Incubus confirmaram a sua presença, mais uma vez (a última foi em 2005), no festival Rock Am Ring 2008, que se irá realizar entre os dias 6 e 8 de Junho, na Alemanha.

Poderá ser prenuncio que eles poderão passar também por Portugal!?!?

Só em título de curiosidade, algumas das bandas que também vão por lá passar são: Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, The Prodigy, Babyshambles, In Flames...

Ben Solo Tour 2008

Ben Kenney já começou a sua tour a solo e aqui ficam algumas infos, fotos e vídeos do que se tem passado.

Brandon passou a passagem de ano no Brasil a convite da modelo internacional Fernanda Motta. Como seria de esperar, a festa teve muita presença de modelos femininas internacionais, mas a pessoa mais notada acabou mesmo por ser, a do actor/músico Jared Leto (30 Seconds To Mars).
